KOLLAM: Minister for Water Resources N.K. Premachandran has said that a monitoring cell with the district panchayat president as chairman and the District Collector as convener will be constituted for monitoring the progress of the projects for the protection of the Sasthamcotta lake.
Talking to the press after attending a review meeting on the protection of the lake, the Minister said that steps will also be taken for constituting a statutory authority for the protection of the lake. Police patrolling around the lake will be arranged in order to make the protection measures more effective.
He said that within six months the boundaries of the lake will be clearly earmarked through a survey. While appreciating the police for steps taken to arrest those allegedly involved in contaminating the lake, the Minister at the same time said that, the police had not acted in the expected manner while charging the case against those arrested.
